Puerto Banús

Situated just west of Marbella, Puerto Banus is a purpose-built resort constructed in 1970 by the architect José Banus, as a luxury marina and shopping complex to cater to the influx of jetsetters. Today, Puerto Banus is still considered a trendy, world famous holiday destination, with a plethora of bars, restaurants and nightclubs lining the yacht-filled marina.

Recreation

It is an attractive holiday destination especially popular for the nightlife scene. Just behind the marina is the main square, Plaza Antonio Banderas where you will find numerous tapas bars restaurants such as Hard Rock Café, the popular El Corte Ingles department store and the Marina Banus mall.

The beaches on either side of the Port are dotted with beach bars and restaurants along the promenade. Playa Verde offers water sports facilities, and at Playa del Duque you will find some of the most famous Beach Clubs this side of the Costa del Sol. Its location in Nueva Andalucia with its slew of eateries and golf courses, plus proximity to Marbella and San Pedro, broadens the array of entertainment and recreation options.

Activities

The main square, Plaza de Antonio Banderas, often hosts an International Artisan Market, and in December and January there is a small skating rink. The beach promenade and the 1 km long pier afford beautiful walks and sea views. Naturally, Puerto Banus does not exist in isolation, A 10 to 20-minute drive will take you to Marbella, San Pedro, Benahavis and Estepona; and the Golf Valley is right on its doorstep. It also has fast road access to the usual heritage sites such as Ronda, Mijas, Casares, Granada, etc.

Shopping and Transport

The marina is crammed with chic designer-brand boutiques spread over a relatively short retail strip from the major fashion emporiums – Versace, Jimmy Choo, Carolina Herrera, to name a few. For more affordable options, you will find high street brands such as H&M, Zara in the Marina Banús shopping center and there is also the El Corte Inglés Department store behind the main square. Explore the Saturday Street Market by the bullring where you can pick up a bargain or two.

There are taxi ranks, buses to Marbella and surrounding area and to the Marbella bus station where you can connect with the main bus lines in Malaga. Fly Blue Catamaran operates a service between Puerto Banus and Marbella, which takes about 20 minutes and gives brilliant views of the Golden Mile coastline.

Lovely beaches, beach clubs and beach bars. West of Puerto Banus towards San Pedro are some of the most famous summer beach clubs on the Costa del Sol. There are also water sports such as kite surfing, windsurfing, stand up paddle boarding, jet ski, etc.
